The Simpsons S26E1 "Clown in the Dumps" Review

The Hype

There's a lot to be exited about for the 26th season of The Simpsons, Besides the Family Guy Crossover, The Futurama Crossover and the Simpsons/Simpsons Crossover. We were also promised some big events among the main cast, specifically the death of a major reoccurring character, there has been endless debate and speculation on who this might be, and I think the show creators got the desired effect, people are talking about The Simpsons. Even a casual Simpsons fan has to be intrigued with who may or may not perish on Sundays season premiere.  The Simpsons may be the longest running scripted American series, but they show no sign of stopping or slowing down.

The Review

The Simpsons Deliver on that promise (technically) with the death of Krusty's Dad, who is in fact an Emmy award winning reoccurring character. I can't say im surprised it wasn't someone more important but i cant help but feel a little cheated. Hey maybe that's my fault for buying into marketing gimmicks.

The episode opens with a  time travel couch gag foreshadowing the upcoming "Tree House of Horror XXV" it was cute for a moment but lasted about 60 seconds too long. The story revolves around Krusty's quest for his late fathers approval, and Lisa concern with Homers Health, The ladder feels very underdeveloped and is seemingly only there to take up runtime between Krusty's parts. Both arcs feature a quite lazy resolution stuffed into the final minutes.

The 26th seasons premiere is overall a typical Simpsons outing. Featuring a few genuinely funny moments garnished with some minor chuckles along the way. The celebrity guests were notable and used well throughout the episode. They didn't do anything wrong, and there's not much to complain about but it is far from spectacular, an episode i can only describe as moderately entertaining.

The Verdict

A pretty good start to the 26th season of the immortal animated series
