South Park S18E1 "Go Fund Yourslef" Review

"Good for you ISIS!"

The Hype

The king of controversy is back once again. What can I say? Its South Park. In 17 seasons it has sure had its weak moments but always manages to delivery enough good to outweigh the bad. Through relevant social commentary and spoofing hot topics South Park has carried on through a generation, and everyone's wondering, how far will they go?

The Review

South Park starts its 18th season sarcastically mocking another current issue, this time mascots that are racially offensive, specifically the Washington Redskins. Matt  and Trey also tackle crowd funding and Kick starter. Along the way touching on Ray Rice, Apple and ISIS, The whole thing feels overstuffed and no single subject is really done justice. Episodes like this make me think back to 6 days to air. I cant help but wondering if there was a little more time and effort put in the episode may have been somthing great rather than another forgettable entry in the series

Nothing here feels terribly new, Seems the same old south park satire has simply been repackaged for a new topic. Almost every joke fell flat. I may have chuckled to myself a little due to one well time line, but there's not much to see here. Its also true that this episode in particular wasn't really made for me, maybe if were a bigger NFL fan i would've found more enjoyment, but then again real comedy should be accessible to anyone, regardless of subject matter,

I wouldn't say the episode was a complete waste of time, but the re-watch value is virtually non- existent. When i wanna watch something mindless and throw on a few episodes of South Park, this wouldn't necessarily be one id immediately skip such as "I Should Have Never Gone Ziplining",  But there will always be those mediocre episodes in a series you just have to accept and deal with,

The Verdict

South Park is off to a wobbly start heading into its 18th Season
