Agents of Shield 2x06 "A Fractured House" Review

The Hype

Agents of Shield has improved vastly as a series and is really coming into it's own as a great show regardless of it's Marvel connections, but it is still losing viewers at an alarming rate and most the hype this week comes from Marvel premiering the Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer. Now this is a brilliant movie on Marvels part to get some new viewers. Unfortunately a few hours after that announcement the trailer was leaked and as a response released by Marvel. I really want Shield to succeed especially now that its finally found it's way, but for now all I can do is keep watching.

The Review

We start off with another great and action packed intro. We finally get a good amount of time with Ward and some background on his life after the events of season 1, but even better than that we finally get to meet Ward's brother who was cast perfectly with Tim DeKay. There's a very big scale to this episode and it's great to see that Marvel has more faith in the series and letting it have a bigger impact on the world.

The acting and character chemistry is outstanding this week, with the dynamic between Lance Hunter and his ex wife Bobbi Morse (Mockingbird) being the highlight. They made for some very funny and charming moments, but also held their own in some fantastic action sets. The splinter bomb tech was very cool and will no doubt be a big tie to Agent Carter. Morse is back to blonde and in her new gear is really looking like an Avenger, if any character is going to make the transition to film it'll be her.

The series is handling Ward in a very interesting way, every time he's on screen I just want to convince myself that he's not so bad and they should all just make up already, but then we are swiftly
reminded of the bad and the betrayal, i'm so pumped that Ward is on the loose and I can't wait to see if he's really as bad as he seems.

Fitz's breakdown to Simmons was a big moment, for us and the character. This episode is incredibly well rounded overall giving us charm, drama and a lot of exiting spy action along the way. i'm so damn glad that I can finally say that this is a great show, not just "better" or "good enough" it's freaking great and I want the season to hurry up and end so I can binge watch it all over again.

The Verdict

Shield continues to far surpass my expectations

8.8/10
